TAMBUNAN: Deputy Chief Minister 1, Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan suggested that “Tambunan Visit Month” be held in May this year in conjunction with the Kaamatan Festival which coincides with the International Climbathon at Mount Trusmadi.

He said the climbathon is aimed at promoting Mount Trusmadi which is the second highest mountain in Malaysia.

“We are taking this opportunity to attract more domestic and foreign tourists in addition to promoting tourist spots in this district,” he said, after the walkabout event and the Chinese New Year Festival at the Pisompuruan Square hall, here, on Thursday.

The walkabout and CNY received a rousing welcome from the multi-racial communities here, he said.

He hoped that this collaboration would continue in the coming years and bring more and bigger developments.

Dr Jeffrey, who is also the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry, hoped that with the presence of many tourists, the community here would be ready to serve them in addition to promoting this district.

He also urged traders to be ready for domestic and foreign visitors.

“I also praise the Chinese and Dusun communities in this district for being able to speak both languages. The more languages that can be mastered, the more useful it is in the globalised world,” he said.

Dr Jeffrey, who is also Tambunan Assemblyman, said the State Government supports and gives full attention to all races in Sabah.

He said, in addition to cultural support for all ethnic groups in the state, no less than RM56 million had been allocated to churches, temples and non-Muslim schools.

“This year is the Year of the Dragon which symbolises power, luck and success which marks 2024 as a year full of potential and prosperity,” he said.

Also present were Assistant Minister of Community Development and People’s Well-Being Datuk Flovia Ng, District Officer Sabitun Makajil, Keningau District Police Chief Supt Yampil Anak Garai, Tambunan Community Development Leader Alex Kiob, political leaders, heads of State and Federal Government departments.
