Tiong on Progressive Democratic Party - Parti Sarawak Bersatu merger
Hopefully, the process could be completed very soon,” Tiong told reporters.
SIBU: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) President Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the proposed merger between his party and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) would be based on the anti-party hopping law.

He assured that the proposal would not trigger any by-elections.

“We are doing all necessary arrangements in accordance with the law and proper procedures…

Hopefully, the process could be completed very soon,” Tiong told reporters during his Chinese New Year (CNY) open house visit to PSB president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, at the latter’s residence at Jalan Cherry recently.

The Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister also said details of the merger could only be revealed once the process and arrangements had reached completion.

“We will complete everything first. Once it is resolved, then we will announce.

“This is similar to a marriage. After we tie the knot, then we will tell the rest of the story,” Tiong said.

The PBS, which won three state seats during the 12th state election in 2021, announced on July 13 last year that it would support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

PDP is a component party in the ruling coalition of GPS, together with Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).
