LAHAD DATU: Celebrating festivals such as Chinese New Year at the school level can foster the spirit of goodwill among the young, said Segama Community Development Leader (PPM) Datuk Mizma Appehdullah.
She said the effort to celebrate at the school level is a good initiative that can instil mutual respect and tolerance among the young.

She said that the country is indeed well-known for the harmony and unity between the multi-ethnic and multi-religious communities since time immemorial.
“One of the ways for us to maintain this unity and harmony is to cultivate noble values such as mutual respect from an early stage among our young generation.
“It is important for our young people to understand the importance of maintaining unity for the sake of our beloved country,” she said, when officiating the Angpao Festival in conjunction with the Chinese New Year Celebration at SJK (C) Yuk Choi.
Mizma said the various festivals in this country could also provide an understanding of the uniqueness of the celebrations of all the races in Malaysia.

An understanding of the unique customs and cultures of other races can foster a spirit of unity, harmony and mutual respect, she said, adding that as Malaysians, especially in Sabah, all should be proud to be able to celebrate various festivals in peace and harmony.
“All levels of society should understand the importance of maintaining unity because unity is the main key to the country’s peace, stability and progress,” she said.
