SOOK: Sook Assemblyman Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin welcomed suggestions to have a replica of a crocodile at the town’s roundabout to welcome travellers to the newly upgraded district.
“I will discuss with my friends and community leaders in the Sook area to refine this matter,” he said.

According to legend, there is a river that stretches in the middle of the town, and flows to the Pegalan and Padas rivers called the Sook river where existed many fierce crocodiles.
The villagers could not go down into the river to bathe or drink without being victims.

Resident, Norhaziah Abdullah said other districts in Sabah have unique statues related to the area’s folklore or history.
“Penampang once had a replica of a Sigah (ceremonial headdress) in its town circle, in Sandakan there is a replica of an Orang Utan,” the teacher said.
Norhaziah said there is a crocodile replica in the District Office compound but it would be better if another one was built at the town roundabout.

“It not only becomes an introduction to the district but also an attraction for tourists,” he said.
Jaulah Godong agreed that it is appropriate if the crocodile replica synonymous with the name Sook was built at the roundabout.
“The roundabout is indeed a strategic location for it is the main route for all visitors from the districts in the interior, including those from the East Coast,” he said.
