Two 11-year-old boys drown in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: Two 11-year-old boys died after bathing at the river in Kampung Tabanak, here, Saturday.

Nur Naufal Iqbal Mohammed Nizam who was rescued by members of the public on Friday and brought to hospital for treatment passed away at 4am, Saturday.

The second victim, Mohammad Juiqram Julmasalleh, was found by his family members at about 11.30am, Saturday.

District Fire and Rescue Station Chief Sumsoa Rashid said his department received a distress call at 4.39pm on Friday. A team of Fire and Rescue personnel were at the scene with three machinery, including a rescue boat.

“Upon arrival, we were informed that two boys were feared drowned while bathing in the river.

“A search and rescue (SAR) operation was carried out with the Civil Defence Force (APM) and the Wildlife Department,” he said.
