PETALING JAYA: Two Perikatan Nasional MPs from Kelantan have urged the government to provide opposition MPs with allocations amid the floods in the east coast state.
Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari and Ketereh MP Khlir Nor said the government should provide the allocations unconditionally.
ADVERTISEMENT “Why not follow the example set by the Kedah, Kelantan and Perlis state governments which provide allocations for opposition representatives unconditionally?
“If you want to give allocations, just do so without the need for negotiating,” he told FMT.
Over 20,000 people in Kelantan have been evacuated to temporary relief centres because of floods. Yesterday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced a RM50 million allocation as initial assistance for flood victims.
The allocations will be disbursed by the National Disaster Management Agency directly to the victims.
ADVERTISEMENT Khlir also said he would not negotiate for funds despite facing challenges in helping flood victims.
“We cannot negotiate with the government because they will take advantage. They are politicking. If they (allocations) are for the rakyat, just provide the funds.”

He also claimed that the government would want the opposition MPs to agree to certain conditions to receive the funds.
Opposition MPs have been pushing for equal allocations from Putrajaya in order to serve their constituents more effectively.
In September, Anwar said opposition MPs must negotiate with the federal government if they want to receive allocations.
