Kota Kinabalu: The closing date for the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Creative Video Contest has been extended to Jan 15, next year due to overwhelming response.

Organising Chairman Datuk Abdul Kassim Razali said there were many requests from participants, especially from the rural areas, that they needed more time to complete their videos.

“After deliberations, we decided to extend until Jan 15, next year,” he said in a statement, Thursday.

Abdul Kassim, who is also Chief Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, said the winners are expected to be announced at the end of January.

“They (winners) will receive their prizes from Gagasan Rakyat President Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is also the Chief Minister,” he said.

Abdul Kassim said the contest, launched by Hajiji on Sept 8, offers RM50,000 worth of prizes.

The contest, themed “Kita Orang Sabah (We Are People Of Sabah)”, was organised by the Gagasan Rakyat training bureau to encourage people in Sabah to showcase their talents and skills.

The contest is divided into two age categories, namely the 18 to 38-year-old category and the 39-year-old and above category.

Abdul Kassim said the winner/champion of each category will receive RM8,000 cash and a trophy, RM5,000 cash and a trophy for second place and third place, RM3,000 and a trophy. There are also special and consolation prizes.

“With the theme ‘Kita Orang Sabah’, the short video can revolve around the traditions and culture of Sabahans, the wealth of nature in Sabah as well as the achievements of Sabahans or any situation that showcases the beauty of Sabah.

“This contest is open to all residents in Sabah,” he said.
