Fatal crashes warrant inspection of road: Warisan
Wong said accidents on the stretch were varied in nature, with many involved factors like poor visibility, especially at night, and driving at a high speed, sparking a public outcry, with community leaders demanding a review and improvement of road safety measures.
Kota Kinabalu: Parti Warisan Kota Kinabalu Division urged the State Government to conduct an immediate and thorough inspection of Jalan Lintas-Kolombong after a string of fatal accidents this year.

Its Information Chief Samuel Wong said there has been an increase (in fatal accidents) which raises concerns about road safety and infrastructure in the area.

“The real issue needs to be addressed. Is the road planning and design contributing to these accidents? There is a need for a comprehensive investigation into the causes.

“It is a major road that has been plagued by numerous problems, notably a series of non-functional streetlights.

“Residents and commuters have complained that these faulty lights have been a longstanding issue for years, significantly reducing visibility and contributing to hazardous driving conditions.

“The lack of functioning streetlights is unacceptable and poses a grave danger to everyone using the road,” said Wong in a statement.

He said the Government must intervene immediately to prevent further accidents and loss of life.

Wong said accidents on the stretch were varied in nature, with many involved factors like poor visibility, especially at night, and driving at a high speed, sparking a public outcry, with community leaders demanding a review and improvement of road safety measures.

“My call for action reflects a growing impatience with the lack of progress in addressing these safety issues.

“The series of tragic incidents not only underscore the need for better road maintenance and design but also call for a broader discussion on road safety awareness among drivers,” he said.
