SANDAKAN: Seventy schools and non-Muslim religious organisations in the East Coast Zone of Sandakan received approval letters for financial aid, on Friday.

Sabah Assistant Minister of Finance, Tan Lee Fatt, presented the aid approval letters in a ceremony held at SJKC Chi Hwa Hall.

Tan represented Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun who is Chairman of the Financial Aid Committee for Schools and Non-Muslim Religious Bodies in 2023.

The 70 recipient institutions include 39 schools, 64 churches, 23 Chinese temples and three Hindu temples in Sandakan, Tongod, Beluran, Paitan and Kinabatangan.

Masidi in his speech delivered by Tan hoped the financial assistance grant would address some of the financial needs of the recipients.

“This includes covering costs of development and improvement of school buildings and houses of worship respectively,” he said.

The State Government allocated RM54.05 million in this year’s budget to provide financial assistance to schools and non-Muslim religious bodies across Sabah.
