Fears MA63 rights not pursued in future
Prof James Chin regretted that the exit of Singapore from the Federation of Malaysia in 1965 without the prior knowledge and consent of the governments of Sabah and Sarawak was the beginning of the erosion of constitutional rights and privileges due to the people of East Malaysia as stipulated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 which must be restored.
Kota Kinabalu: The risk of future generations being oblivious of the Malaysia ideals and Sabah’s rights under MA63 through lack of knowledge or indifference is real.

University of Tasmania Professor of Asian Studies Prof James Chin warned of gradual time erasure of 20-points and 18-points safeguard as more members of the pre-Merdeka older generation pass on and the younger generations are not well educated on the issues or dream of a progressing seculars and multi-racial nation.

“This is a very special year – 60 years of federation. We need to look forward to the future. I am very keen to remind Sabahans and Sarawakians that it is very important that Sabah and Sarawak remember the vision that our forefathers have for Malaysia,” Prof James Chin told Daily Express.
