Zuraida apologises to Saifuddin in court to settle defamation lawsuit
Former minister Zuraida Kamaruddin made allegations in 2020 against Saifuddin Nasution Ismail over a Kelantan government trust fund.
PETALING JAYA: Former minister Zuraida Kamaruddin has apologised to Saifuddin Nasution Ismail at the sessions court in Kuala Lumpur, in settling a defamation suit brought by the PKR secretary-general.

Saifuddin, who is also the home minister, sued Zuraida after she inferred that he had received millions while managing Tabung Amanah Tok Kenali – a trust fund in Kelantan to help the poor.

The allegation was made in 2020.

Saifuddin’s lawyer Navpreet Singh said Zuraida had also retracted the statements which attracted the lawsuit.

“The terms of these settlements are full and final, with both parties not having any liberty to file afresh. No costs were ordered,” Navpreet said when contacted.

Saifuddin claimed that Zuraida’s remarks, made at a hotel on Dec 8, 2020, had dragged his reputation into disrepute.

He said Zuraida had asked the crowd at the hotel “how much (in millions) he had received when he joined Tok Kenali”, referring to his connection with the trust fund.

Saifuddin had sought general, aggravated and exemplary damages from Zuraida, as well as an injunction order to restrain her from making further derogatory statements.
