Kota Kinabalu: Veteran pair Roland Liew Sue Khiong and Sajeymee Janish clinched the 31st Borneo Safari International Off Road Challenge 2023 title on Sunday.

The duo representing Powergine Enterprise Sdn Bhd put behind the disappointment last year when they lost narrowly to Wong Su Bin and Rudia Yansyah Nge Nre to claim their first ever title and took home the Challenge Trophy plus RM90,000 worth of prizes at the prize presentation ceremony held at Likas Hakka Hall, Sunday.

They  accumulated a total of 920 points from 12 Special Stages (SS) held at various locations around Keningau, Sook and Ranau over a week.

“We were determined to prove the doubters wrong after the setback last year and we have worked hard to develop our competition car and thankfully both our teamwork and dedication were rewarded with us taking home the champion’s trophy.

“I want to thank all the team members as well as the sponsors that supported our 2023 Borneo Safari mission, without their support, we could not have made this dream a reality,” he said.

The runner-up spot and RM58,000 worth of prizes went to  Chang Ket Kiun and Alexander Chang with 905 points while two-time Borneo Safari champion Liew Fui Kong and Yong Yee Lon came in third with 882 points to take the RM37,500 prizes.

Sabah Four Wheel Drive Association (SFWDA) President Faez Nordin congratulated the winners as well as the participants where more than 1,500 were involved.

He also thanked Isuzu Malaysia Sdn Bhd for becoming the Diamond Sponsor as well as UMW Grantt International Sdn Bhd for continuing their support as the Platinum Sponsor including both Gold Sponsors and Silver Sponsors.

Also present at the closing dinner were Istana Seri Kinabalu Secretary for Communication Datuk Mohd Rashid Dato’ Mohd Tahir, Isuzu Malaysia Sdn Bhd Chief Operation Officer representative Masaki Terashima, UMW Grantt International Sdn Bhd Manufacturing & Engineering Division Group Director Anas Nasrun Mohd Osman and Sabah Road Transport Department (JPJ) representative TC Syariman Latif.
