RANAU: Banker Tan Sri Azman Hashim became one of the oldest corporate figures to scale Mount Kinabalu on Oct 31.

It was to prove to himself that he still has what it takes to live a full life and to encourage others in their senior years to pursue healthy lifestyles and chase new dreams.

He attributes his unwavering passion for new goals to the love and support of a wonderful family who has stood by him in his varied pursuits

He was joined by good friend Ong Hock Siew who had scaled Mount Kinabalu 70 times.

Starting at 8.45am, a steady pace brought them to the lunch shelter of Layang-Layang (8,865 feet) at 1.30pm.

Azman continued at a steady pace and reached Laban Rata (10,730 feet) the halfway house at 7.15pm.

They set off for the summit at 5am on Oct. 31.

The cold biting air made the start of the summit challenge a tough one.

As Azman brought his weary legs to sit at the summit, he unveiled a poster that read “84 – at the peak”, a simple but apt reference that 84 is not the end of the road.

“One can still stand at high mountains if we never give up on our dreams,” said Ong.
