PETALING JAYA: Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman says he takes great comfort in allowing “kingmakers” Sabah and Sarawak to decide the future of Malaysia.

“I think it’s good that both states should have a strong voice in the federal government,” he said at a ceramah in Kuching.

However, Syed Saddiq, who is defending his Muar seat, said East Malaysians should pick the right coalition to vote for, stating that Pakatan Harapan (PH) had clear reform and policy agendas.

The Muda president said PH’s priorities were reforming public education in the country, redistributing wealth equitably among the people, improving public transportation and ensuring that corruption and abuse of power were weeded out.

“At the same time, PH has many good leaders from different races and religions.

“It is a coalition that also combines the experience of the old and energy of the young to reform Malaysia for good.”

Syed Saddiq added that every single parliamentary seat in Sarawak played a pivotal role in helping the coalition win the general election (GE15).

“PH was the biggest coalition (in 2018). We just needed two to three MPs to form a stable government, but we did not get it from our partners in Borneo.

“This time around, we cannot afford to make the same mistake. We need every single seat so that after GE15, we will be able to swear Anwar Ibrahim in as prime minister and his Cabinet to move Malaysia forward.”

Syed Saddiq also urged Undi18 voters to come out and vote as they played an active role in determining the future direction of the country.

“To the Malaysian youths, you can choose to stay away from politics but it will never stay away from you.

“If you don’t turn up and vote, someone else will decide your future for you.

“Undi18 voters, change is in your hands,” he said, stating that more than seven million new voters would be eligible to vote this year.

Malaysians will go to the polls on Nov 19.
