Illegals in premises: Trio fined

Kota Kinabalu: Three men were fined for allowing illegal immigrants to stay in the premises under their care and hiring an illegal worker.Wong Nyuk Hiong, 71, Rosli Aris, 43, and Ho Wui Ching @ Leslie W.C Ho, 41, pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz, to the charges against them.

Wong was fined a total of RM20,000 for permitting four Indonesian women, two without documents, to stay in the premises on Aug 11 this year at 3.20pm at the Mutiara Reflexology & Beauty Centre in Jalan Tugu, Kg Air, here.
The court handed RM5,000 fine or a month’s jail for each illegal immigrant involved.
The court granted Wong’s application to pay the fine by instalment in which the first payment on Thursday of RM5,000, second payment of RM5,000 on or before Nov 30 this year and third payment of RM10,000 on or before Dec 16 this year.
The court set Dec 16 this year for review the payment.

Meanwhile, Ho was fined RM5,000 or one month’s jail for allowing a Filipino who did not have any document, to stay at the Kiosk No 21, Lot 1, Tampa Bridge Warehouse in Tamparuli, Tuaran at 10.35am on Sept 13 this year.
The offence, under Section 55E(2) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 ,carries a jail term of up to a year, or a fine of between RM5,000 and RM30,000, or both, for each illegal immigrant involved.

Rosli was ordered to pay RM10,000 or spend two months’ jail for employing an Indonesian to work at the Rika Spa Beauty Centre in Putatan Point at 10.45pm on Sept 13 this year.
During mitigation, the trio respectively asked for lower fines.
However, Prosecuting Officer Tan Tze Mee from the Immigration Department urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence as to give lesson not only to the offenders but also public at large.
