“Based on the weather forecast, all parts of Sabah are expected to receive average rainfall, except in Kudat and Sandakan where the rainfall is slightly above average in November and December,” Rosli said.
Kota Kinabalu: The maritime community, especially in Sabah, has been advised to remain vigilant in view of the current monsoon transition period.

Sabah and Labuan Maritime Director First Admiral Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah said based on the forecast of the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the country would experience frequent rain and thunderstorms mainly in eastern Sabah during the transition period, which is expected to prevail up to November.

Meanwhile, the Civil Defence Department is ready for up to 400mm of average rainfall all over Sabah during the Northeast Monsoon, which is expected to last until March 2023.

“We have identified 30 hotspots from at least 667 flood-prone areas in the State,” the Department said in a statement.

The highest number of such areas is in Paitan, Beluran with 115 and the least in Putatan with 2.

“Forty-one operation rooms across Sabah will be working round-the-clock backed by a rotation of 3,314 trained and skilled personnel.

“Twenty-six light and 16 medical and heavy rescue vehicles alongside 111 various boats will be used for rescue operations.

“A total of of 345 temporary shelters capable of accommodating 131,300 are also the ready,” the department added.
