Making fake IC: Ruling on NRD staff’s case adjourned
Safiah is currently released on a bail of RM6,000 with RM4,000 deposited in a local surety. The prosecution had closed its case after calling 18 witnesses in the trial, on May 26 this year.
Kota Kinabalu: The ruling of a 53-year-old assistant registrar of the National Registration Department (NRD) charged with making a fake identification card, had been adjourned to Sept 1 this year.

Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manat re-scheduled the date of ruling end of the prosecution for Safiah Alijang, when the parties asked for extension of time.

Safiah is accused of making the fake document bearing the serial number 991207-12-5135 under the name Muhamad Daniel Hafiez bin Arif @ Jali at 3.05pm on May 22, 2013 at the NRD Pitas branch.

The offence, under Section 463/465 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both, on conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nartiah F.M Sambatan from Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission conducted the prosecution while counsel Azhier Farhan Arisin defended Safiah.

In another case, a man was jailed four months and ordered to be given a stroke of the cane for entering the State illegally. Hakim Abdullah pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim, to the charge against him.

Hakim was arrested on July 22 this year at the city area after he failed to produce his identification document to the police.The court ordered Hakim to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest and referred to the Immigration after completing his jail sentence.
