Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) has created a revolutionary test kit capable of detecting the presence of Salmonella in poultry at double the rate and accuracy.Salmo.ID Ver 2.0 (SYBR_MELT) costs only 15 sen (estimated manufacturing price) compared to the conventional gel electrophoresis method which hovers above the RM1,000 price attained from overseas suppliers.
Spearheading research, Sabah DVS Diagnostic Labs Research Officer Awang Muhammad Sagaf believes the novel polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests would drastically increase the State’s poultry export.
