Kota Kinabalu: The newly-formed 503 Squadron will be under the command of the Kota Kinabalu Air Station (SUKK) which was officiated by Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein at the Royal Malaysia Navy (RMN) base in Sepanggar, near here, Friday.

Hishammuddin said the establishment and inauguration of the 503 Squadron and SUKK followed the acquisition of three AW139 helicopters, two of which were handed over to the RMN Friday.

“The AW139 helicopters produced by Leonardo Helicopter Italy are the latest RMN assets, purchased specifically to enhance the operational capability of the RMN, especially in preserving security and sovereignty of Sabah.
