Zuraida to quit Bersatu, join PBM

Zuraida Kamaruddin says she will meet Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob soon to discuss her resignation from the Cabinet.
PETALING JAYA: Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin will be quitting Muhyiddin Yassin’s Bersatu to join newly formed Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).
In a statement today, the plantation industries and commodities minister said she will be meeting Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob soon to discuss her resignation from the Cabinet.

Nonetheless, she maintained that she would continue supporting Ismail’s government, in line with PBM’s stand.
Zuraida had joined Bersatu after being sacked from PKR in the wake of the Sheraton Move in 2020.
“Over the last few months, I have been thinking long and hard about politics in the country and my future direction. I gathered feedback from close supporters, Ampang voters, colleagues in the government, civil society representatives and those from the business sectors,” she said.
“After in-depth consideration, I have decided to join PBM. I believe in the struggles of this party and am very attached to its core principles.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Muhyiddin and Ismail for their trust in appointing me as a Cabinet minister.”
Zuraida said she was currently overseas to attend a conference and fulfill another business mission invitation from the Malaysian Timber Council and would be back in Malaysia on June 2.

“I humbly seek forgiveness and apologise for any flaws or weaknesses during my tenure. I pray for the best and hope my new political journey will be supported by everyone in this beloved country,” she said.
Rumours that Zuraida would be leaving Bersatu for PBM had been swirling since late last year, with the former PKR vice-president speculated to lead the party currently helmed by Julau MP Larry Sng.
In December, she said she had not received any offers to join any parties, but added that “any offer must be considered”.
