The Diaries of Neelakantan: Nobody was safe during air raids

1945

Later, one morning in February or March 1945 after strafing for sometime around the town a bomb was dropped, aimed at the train head. Actually the bomb hit the market and brought it to ground level. Sheets of iron roof of the opposite side shops were blown off to a far off distance. With the Japanese we used to see one machine gun mounted on an open wagon on the railway track of the train when going up and down the fifty-six miles for necessary action. This was supposed to be used for the defence of the train.
