Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor hosted a luncheon for media practitioners in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri at the grand ballroom, Magellan Sutera Hotel and Spa, here, Monday.

The event was organised by the Media and Communications Office of the Chief Minister’s Department (CMD) and attended by about 200 media practitioners in Sabah.

Hajiji was pleased and thanked the media practitioners for their presence to celebrate Raya with him in the event, after two years such an event could not be held due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “I am very pleased with the presence of many media practitioners here today, after such an event could not be held for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “Indeed, today is a very meaningful memory for all of us. Thank you for continuing to give support to me and the State Government,” said Hajiji.   CMD Media and Communications Director Datin Lucy Irene Yong said in her speech that the ceremony, apart from celebrating Raya, was also as a gesture of gratitude and appreciation of the important role of the media in covering programmes and activities organised by the State Government, especially those involving the Chief Minister.

She said the extensive media coverage, whether print, electronic or portal, related to the Government’s continuous efforts to bring development in Sabah through the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan is very significant in terms of enabling the general public to know and understand SMJ’s objectives and achievements.

She said as soon as Hajiji started his duties as the Chief Executive of the State Government, he agreed to rebrand the CMD Press and Publication Office to now the Media and Communications Office in line with current needs so that the office is more forward looking.

“The CMD Media and Communications Office is the focal point in ensuring that all reports related to the State Government and the Chief Minister are disseminated not only quickly but accurately.

“I am very grateful for the cooperation and understanding that has existed between media practitioners and the Media and Communications Office over the years, and I hope this will continue.

“I have a good team. We have done and will do our best to engage you in the media and to facilitate communications and we are happy media relations have been good.

“As a facilitator to media practitioners and organisations in providing coverage and publicity to the State Government, especially the Chief Minister, my office has always and will continue to cooperate fully with media partners for our common good,” added Lucy.

Also present were the Assistant Ministers to the Chief Minister Datuk Abidin Madingkir and Datuk Wetrom Bahanda, State Secretary Datuk Seri Sr. Haji Safar Untong, Sabah Journalists Association (SJA) President Datuk Muguntan Vanar, Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association (KKJA) President Jimmy Goh, Malaysian Broadcasting Department (RTM) Sabah Director Zulkefli Mohd, Sabah Information Department Director Nadzerah Abdullah, Daily Express Editor-in-Chief James Sarda, Borneo Post Editor-in-Chief Chiu Nai Wen and Bernama Bureau Chief Fadzli Ramli, among others.
