Man, Viet woman charged with having 32gm Syabu

Kota Kinabalu: A man and a Vietnamese woman were charged with having 32.17gm of syabu.Sim Wei Thien, 35, and his worker Tran Kim Loi, 25, pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus, after the charge was read to them, Thursday.

The duo are accused of having the drugs on Sept 25, 2021 at an apartment unit in Telipok, here.
They were jointly charged under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act which carries a jail term of between five years and life imprisonment, and whipping at least 10 strokes, on conviction.
The court set May 26 for case management to serve documents pertaining the case.
Pending the date, Sim and Tran were ordered remanded further.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mas Izzaty Lokman appeared for the prosecution while counsel Chin Tek Ming defended the duo.
Meanwhile, a man was sentenced to seven years’ jail and given three strokes of the cane for taking drugs repeatedly.

Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim meted out the sentence to Muzri Norbi after he pleaded guilty, Thursday.
He was found taking the drugs on April 2 this year after his urine was tested positive at the Tuaran police station.
Muzri has several conviction records for taking drugs.
The court ordered Muzri to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.
After completing his jail sentence, the court ordered Muzri to be placed under police supervision for two years.
