PETALING JAYA: The death of teenager Revnesh Kumar along with other cases of serious adverse events following immunisation (AEFI) will be referred to an independent panel, health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said today.

Taking to Twitter, he said the panel will consist of external experts to investigate and review reports prepared by the ministry.

This comes after Klang MP Charles Santiago questioned Khairy and the ministry on whether there would be an independent inquiry into Revnesh’s death just 18 days after he received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The DAP man said an independent view on the post-mortem report could help calm fears among parents.

In the Dewan Rakyat today, deputy health ministry Aaron Ago Dagang said there were no cases directly linking the vaccines to deaths since the vaccination programme started.

He added that the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) had received 607 AEFI reports.

On March 9, doctors confirmed that 13-year-old Revnesh’s death was not related to the Covid-19 vaccine.

Revnesh’s mother, Vijayarani Govindan, said the family received the preliminary post-mortem report on the boy’s death.

“The report states that Revnesh died a sudden death as test results showed that his organs were all healthy and his body was not affected by the vaccine,” she said.

Revnesh was said to have vomited and collapsed on his way to a karate class on Jan 16. He was taken to Kajang Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He had received his Covid-19 vaccine about three weeks earlier.
