New role for once historic and popular site
‘The Store’ supermarket prior to the Covid-19 lockdown period is now leased to Bataras.
Kota Kinabalu: The Covid-19 pandemic lockdown has caused occupancy rates of many malls to drop, as well as depressed demand trends as e-commerce sales expanded, pressuring rental and lease rates downwards. Hypermarkets are being outcompeted by smaller stores and shops, but remain profitable.

The state capital Central Business District (CBD) here saw the historic old central market building being taken over by Bataras on Dec 18, while in the federal capital, the historic old Pudu jail demolished and to reopen as a shopping mall under Japanese management next month.
