Man on trial for assault with katana

Kota Kinabalu: A 20-year-old teenager claimed trial to causing grievous hurt to another man.Mohamad Sarip Ramli made the plea before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus when his case was brought up for mention on Tuesday.

Mohamad Sarip is accused of assaulting one Mohd Hazrul Migo Masan, 29, using a katana at 5am on Oct 1 this year in front of the Marina Court Resort Condominium in Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen, here.
The charge stated that he allegedly committed the offence together with three accomplices who are still at large.
The offence under Section 326 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, and liability to a fine, on conviction.
The court set Jan 11 for pre-trial case management.

In a previous hearing, Mohamad Sarip was granted bail of RM15,000 with three local sureties whom were his parents, and one Malaysian citizen with blue Identity Card. Mohamad Sarip was also ordered to report to Inanam police station twice a month and warned to not tamper with prosecution witnesses.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Tham Pou Jin appeared for the prosecution while Mohamad Sarip was not represented.
