Indon claims trial to killing ex-wife
Kota Kinabalu: An Indonesian fisherman claimed trial at the High Court, Thursday, to murdering his former wife.

Melo Guli, 38, who was brought before Judge Datuk Nurchaya Hj Arshad pleaded not guilty to committing the crime against vegetable seller Rina Amat, 36, also an Indonesian, at 2.30pm on Feb 11, 2020 in a rented room on the second floor of Block I, Segama, here.

The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the death penalty, on conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Rozanna Abd Hadi applied for pre-trial case management (PTCM) date.

Nurchaya set Dec 3 for the first PCTM and ordered Melo to be remanded further as the charge against him has no provision for bail.

Melo was represented by counsel Goldam Hamid.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old paperless Filipino claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court for using someone else’s MyKad as his identification document to obtain Covid-19 vaccination.

Albin Janani allegedly committed the offence at 3.26pm on Aug 12 at the KDCA vaccination centre (PPV) in Penampang.

The offence under Section 25(1)(o) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 carries a jail term of up to three years or a fine of up to RM20,000 or both, on conviction.

Inspector Albert Basiri offered no bail as Albin has no valid document and had been sentenced to an Immigration offence. Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun fixed Nov 18 for mention to fix the hearing date and ordered Albin to be further remanded.
