Kota Kinabalu: The State Government is making early preparations to face flood disasters which have been forecast to occur at the end of this year following the monsoon shift by ensuring adequate supply of food and essential items.State Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said the delivery of flood preparedness items to the districts expected to be affected by floods was underway.

“According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department, we are experiencing monsoon transition and heavy rains and storms are expected to occur in November and December.

“Delivery of flood preparedness items such as mattresses, pillows and other necessities to the flood-prone districts is underway,” he said.

He also advised the public to be always careful and alert about the weather conditions during this rainy season.

“For those living on the hill slopes and on water, always be alert about unpredictable weather changes to prevent any unwanted incidents,” he said.

Shahelmey said this during a visit to the Disaster Storage Depot after officiating the Sabah Welfare Services Department (JPKA) and Sabah Community Services Council (MPMS) Integrity Day in Sembulan, here, Wednesday.

He also reminded civil servants to always have integrity in delivering services.

“By understanding what corruption and abuse of power means, the culture of working with integrity can be nurtured and become a daily practice.

“Imagine the impact on the State and also the quality of services that we should provide to the people if we let dishonesty continue to affect all the departments or ministries.

“Make integrity a daily working culture and not just part of an annual event,” he said.
