Auxiliary cop fined over bomb joke in Tawau

TAWAU: An auxiliary policeman who joked that he was carrying a bomb at the Tawau Airport (LTT) recently, was fined RM2,000 or two months’ jail for criminal intimidation and causing annoyance.Saddam Buklau (pic), 30, pleaded guilty before High Court Deputy Registrar Amir Shah Amir Hassan who sat as Magistrate, to the charge against him on Monday.

He had criminally intimidated and caused fear to Marylisa Tahir, at 8.20am on May 20 this year at the check-in counter of the Malaysia Airline System (MAS) in LTT, here.
The offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of two years, or with a fine, or both, upon conviction. During mitigation, counsel Jhesseny Kang from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK), asked for no custodial sentence to be impose on Saddam, saying that his client has children who are still small and that his guilty plea had saved the court time and costs.
Apart from that, Kang also informed the court that Saddam actually wanted to say that the item he brought was kerepek ubi kayu, but accidentally uttered the word ‘bomb’.
However, Deputy Public Prosecutor, Kershanathan Patmanathan urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence on Saddam.

The court heard that on that day, Marylisa asked Saddam who wanted to fly to Kuala Lumpur, about the items in the box he was carrying and Saddam told her it was a bomb.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Following a report, Saddam was later detained by a police team from Balai Sri Indah and handed over to the security of Malaysia Airport Berhad.
