Covid-19: Four deaths, 3,306 new cases nationwide, 432 in Sabah
PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 3,306 Covid-19 cases and four deaths in the past 24 hours.

The highest number of cases are in Selangor, which reported 1,213 cases, Sabah (432) and Johor (329).

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 2,293 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 122,344.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 161,740.

There are 38,791 active cases with 226 patients receiving intensive care, of which 94 require respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the four deaths raise the toll to 605.

The deaths reported involved three men and a woman aged between 59 to 91. All of them are Malaysians and suffered from other illnesses.

The deaths were recorded in Selangor, Terengganu and Sabah.

Of the new cases reported today, 3,299 were local and seven imported. A total of 2,198 involve Malaysians and 1,101 involve foreigners.

Of the 1,213 cases in Selangor, 912 cases were detected from clusters and close contacts screenings.

Besides Sabah and Johor, KL had 250 cases, Melaka (156), Kelantan (150), Penang (145), Kedah (142), Negeri Sembilan (126), Perak (114), Sarawak (100), Pahang (84), Terengganu (20), Perlis (16), Putrajaya (15) and Labuan (14).

Noor Hisham said a total of 107 cases were reported from immigration detention centre clusters as well as lock-ups and prisons.

The health ministry reported nine new clusters today affecting Selangor, Sabah, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, and Pahang.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the clusters are the Taman Tasik Sungai Chua cluster in Selangor, the Segamaha Complex and Jalan Bukit Bendera clusters in Sabah, the Jalan Suria cluster in Johor, the Jalan Nipah and Era Duta construction site clusters in KL, the Pulau Lima cluster in Kelantan, the Jalan TJ in Negeri Sembilan and the Genting Kafe cluster in Pahang.

The Taman Tasik Sungai Chua cluster in Hulu Langat, Selangor involves residents from a housing area who tested positive during a screening at a supermarket on Jan 18.

A total of 147 people have been screened with 60 testing positive.

The Segamaha Complex cluster in Kinabatangan, Sabah first involved an individual screened at the workplace on Jan 16. The patients in this cluster are plantation workers. A total of 250 people have been screened with 58 testing positive.

The Jalan Bukit Bendera cluster involves the districts of Kota Kinabalu, Papar, and Beaufort in Sabah. It first involved an individual screened after exhibiting symptoms. The patient was found to be positive on Jan 7. The cluster is linked to a public institution in Kota Kinabalu. A total of 100 people have been screened with 20 testing positive.

The Jalan Suria cluster involves a private medical centre in Johor Bahru in Johor. It first involved an individual screened after exhibiting symptoms. The patient was found to be positive on Jan 17. A total of 686 people have been screened with 24 testing positive.

The Jalan Nipah construction site cluster in Titiwangsa, KL, involves patients who tested positive on Jan 18 during a screening at the site. A total of 517 people have been screened with 29 testing positive.

The Era Duta construction site cluster in Titiwangsa, KL, involves patients who tested positive on Jan 18 during a screening at the site. A total of 420 people have been screened with 20 testing positive.

The Pulau Lima cluster in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, first involved an individual screened after exhibiting symptoms. The patient was found to be positive on Jan 10. A total of 27 people have been screened with nine testing positive.

The Jalan TJ cluster in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, first involved a factory worker from the Tuanku Jafaar Industrial Park who was screened after exhibiting symptoms. The patient was found to be positive on Jan 7. A total of 129 people have been screened with 39 testing positive.

The Genting Cafe cluster is a workplace cluster involving a cafe at a recreational centre in Genting Highlands, Pahang, and first involved an individual screened after exhibiting symptoms.

The patient was found to be positive on Jan 3. A total of 104 people have been screened with 31 testing positive.

Noor Hisham said a total of 299 clusters are still active with 81 clusters reporting new cases today.
