Kota Kinabalu: The infiltration of foreign fishing boats into Malaysian waters, especially off Sabah, is due to the rich and varied marine life which they hope to profit from.

“MMEA takes this matter seriously and will not compromise with anyone found not in compliance with Malaysian laws,” said Sabah and Labuan MMEA Director First Admiral Mohd Rosli Abdullah.

He said this after the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency detained two Vietnamese boats, including crew, trawling at two different places off Mengalum on July 1 in an operation dubbed “Op Naga Timur”. He said three foreign fishing boats were seized this year.
