Having knife, illegal entry: Filipino charged

Kota Kinabalu: A 20-year-old Filipino was charged with having a knife in public without a permit and entering the State illegally.Abdul Raki pleaded not guilty before High Court Deputy Registrar Cindy Mc Juce Balitus who sat as a Sessions Court Judge, to the charges against him on Monday.

On the first count, Abdul is accused of having the 14-inch knife without any permit at 6.15pm on Apr 15 this year by the roadside at Kg Sembulan.
The offence under Section 6(1) Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offences Weapons (amended 2014) Act carries a jail term of between five years and 10 years and liability of a whipping on conviction.

The court set May 20 for case management and ordered Abdul to be remanded further pending the date.

Abdul’s cases would be mentioned before Sessions Court Judges Azreena Aziz and Ummu Khaltom Abdul Samad, respectively. Deputy Public Prosecutor Mas Izzaty Lokman appeared for the prosecution while Abdul was not represented. – Cynthia D Baga
