Six police personnel positive for Covid-19: IGP
Kuala Lumpur: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador (pic) on Saturday confirmed that six police personnel have tested positive for Covid-19 while their 335 family members are waiting for test results.

He said the cases highlighted the risks the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel had to face in carrying out their duties while the country was facing Covid-19 outbreak. “To date, six of my men have tested positive for Covid-19…(and) we continue to give the rest of them encouragement and motivation to carry out their jobs,” he said in an exclusive interview aired on Astro Awani, Saturday. In another development, Abdul Hamid said as the Movement Control Order (MCO) enters its fourth day Saturday, people are beginning to adhere to the directive by restricting their movement.

He said police continued to advise those a few who were still doing outdoor activities.

“We are not giving up as we are still at a stage where we want to create awareness and we use various tactics and technics for the purpose,” he said. Police had launched Op Covid-19 on March 18 by conducting hundreds of roadblocks, among others, to ensure people observe the MCO announced by the Government to break the chain of Covid-19 infection. Meanwhile, police have denied that summonses are being issued to people for not travelling alone in their vehicles to purchase supplies, following the implementation of the MCO, effective March 18 to 31.

When contacted, Serdang District Police Chief ACP Ismadi Borhan said information circulating on social media that such an incident had taken place in Puchong was fake news.

The message, which has been circulating on WhatsApp since Friday, alleges that police imposed a RM200 summons on a married couple who had left their home to buy daily necessities.

It also advises the public to leave home alone, when buying supplies or food.

On Friday, Brickfields District Police Chief ACP Zairulnizam Mohd Zainuddin @ Hilmi issued a denial that police officers were issuing summonses at a roadblock in front of the Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) police station.

Meanwhile, in LABUAN, police denied claims that RM250 summonses had been issued to members of the public for not wearing face masks while in the vicinity of the Milimewa supermarket.

Labuan Police Chief Supt Muhamad Farid Ahmad said his officers were aware that face masks were hard to come by across the country, and therefore such an allegation did not make sense.

“There is no need to circulate information that has not been verified as it only serves to cause panic,” he added.

On individuals travelling to work, he said the police would only grant passage to those who were employed in a sector providing essential services, and who carried with them letters from their employer, authorising them to work during the March 18 to 31 implementation period of the Movement Control Order.
