Three from China fined RM5,400 for online gambling

KOTA KINABALU: Three men from China were fined a total of RM5,400 by the Magistrate’s Court here for engaging in an online gambling activity.
Zang Hai, 31, Wang Kun, 30 and Chen Long, 40, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence by using a laptop each at 11pm on Jan 14 this year at the Sokid Villa in Bukit Padang here.

They were each ordered to pay a fine of RM1,800 or two months jail.
The charge under Section 6 (1) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months jail or both on conviction.
The court heard that the three were arrested by police acted on Ops Dadu Khas information during a raid at the said place.

Counsel Hairul V. Othman representing the three, requested for a fine saying that they were tourists from China and applied to be deported to their hometown.
The court also ordered the three be referred to the Immigration Department for further action.

In another case, a 24-year-old waiter was fined RM100 or two days jail for fraudulently having RM1,600 in his bank account.
Ng Jing Teck pleaded guilty to having the money in his Maybank account between Aug 7, 2019 and Aug 31, 2019 which he failed to give satisfactorily explanation on how he obtained them.
Ng was charged under Section 22A (1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance which provides for a fine of up to RM100 or up to three months jail or both on conviction.
