Suspension has conditions attached
KOTA KINABALU: The implementation of the recent suspension of flights between China and Sabah by the State Government is subject to several conditions.

Based on the directive by the State Secretary dated Jan 31, spotted by the Daily Express, there are three conditions.

The first being incoming flights from China to Sabah carrying Malaysians and non-Chinese nationals are allowed.

Chinese nationals who board a non-direct incoming flight from China to Sabah are also allowed. Thirdly, outgoing flights from Sabah to China are still allowed.

The State Government, on Thursday, temporarily suspended scheduled and chartered flights between China and Sabah with immediate effect until further notice in light of the novel coronavirus outbreak. A source from the Sabah Tourism Board (STB) said the conditions set by the State Government can help to limit direct arrivals of Chinese tourists.

The source also said there will be no new arrivals soon as the Federal Government has halted all immigration facilities, including issuing visas for Chinese citizens from Wuhan and the areas around Hubei province with immediate effect.
