Foreigner charged with abetting NRD staff to make fake IC
Kota Kinabalu: A 50-year-old who holds a temporary identification document, was charged with abetting with an Assistant Registrar of the National Registration Department (NRD) to make a fake identification card.

Sabaria Ruddin pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manat to the charge against her on Friday.

However, her sentencing was deferred to Feb 3 as her document needed to be verified. She was accused of abetting with Safiah Alijang, 54, to making the fake document bearing serial number 991207-12-5135 under the name Muhamad Daniel Hafiez bin Arif @ Jali at 3.05pm on May 22, 2013 at the NRD Pitas branch.

The offence, under Section 109/465 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 465 of the Penal Code, provides for a jail term of up to two years or fine, or both, on conviction.

Pending the date, the court ordered Sabaria, who was not represented, to be remanded further.

Earlier, Prosecuting Officer Mohd Faliq Basiruddin from Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) objected to bail Sabaria on the grounds that she is not Malaysian and only holding the temporary identification document.

On Aug 1, 2019, Safiah, the Assistant Registrar of NRD, was charged with making the fake document and she claimed trial to the charge. Safiah was released on bail pending the disposal of her case.
