Crackdown on errant travel, tour operators
Kota Kinabalu: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) launched an integrated operation on Friday to curb wrongdoings among tourism players.

Sabah Motac Director, Ag Ahmad Zaki Abu Bakar, said the two-day operation targeted tourism vehicles and companies which did not comply with the Tourism Industry Act 1992 and Road Transport Act.

He said the locations involved were Telipok, Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Jalan Kota Belud-Tuaran and Jesselton Point.

“Throughout the operation, we inspected 151 buses and drivers operating in this industry,” he said in a statement.

Ag Ahmad said 28 notices were also issued to operators and tour drivers.

Among the offences were using unlicensed tourism vehicles or without original permits, no tourist guides and expired tourist guide licences.

Besides that, the traffic police also issued 77 summonses.

“These operations will be held from time to time to ensure operators and tour bus drivers abide by the laws.

“This is also to ensure the safety of tourists who come to the State,” he added.
