KOTA KINABALU: The State Government is committed in making entrepreneurship one of the pillars of the State’s economic strength, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

He said the State Government aims to create a holistic and conducive entrepreneurial ecosystem in Sabah to support the country’s inclusive, balanced and sustainable economic development agenda, thus creating a thoughtful and entrepreneurial community.

“The State Government is committed to increasing the number of quality, viable, resilient, global and competitive entrepreneurs, while enhancing the capacity of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“I urge Sabahans, especially the young people, to gain knowledge and inculcate an entrepreneurial culture within themselves and to make entrepreneurship a career of choice,” said Shafie when officiating the State-level One District One Industry (SDSI) at Imago Shopping Mall, here, Saturday.

His speech was read by his Deputy Chief Minister cum Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau.

Themed “National Entrepreneurship Drive Cooperative,” cooperatives are one of the branches of entrepreneurs and a platform that is able to foster entrepreneurial culture among the community.

The programme, organised by the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development (MED) in collaboration with the State Government, gives an opportunity to Sabahan entrepreneurs to enhance their knowledge and skills.

Held over three days from Oct 18 to today (Sunday), the programme features more than 70 entrepreneurs and cooperatives from Sabah and Sarawak showcasing their products and services such as food and beverage, handicraft and homestays, among others.
