 Thumbs up to Taekwondo Courage Cup
KOTA KINABALU: The organiser of the 1st Courage Martial Arts (CMA) Social Cup Taekwondo tournament 2019 which started on Saturday at 1Borneo Hypermall here, received the thumbs-up from Youth and Sports Minister Phoong Jin Zhe.

In his opening ceremony speech read by political secretary Henry Shim,  he praised the initiative carried out by organising Chairman Chin Teck Ming and his committee to host the event.

“The initiative to host this Courage Martial Arts Taekwondo Cup 2019 is very encouraging as it helps to foster understanding and friendship as well as to raise the standard and competitiveness  among all the clubs, state association, government agencies , private sectors, education institutions and NGOs,” he said.

Some 1,000 taekwondo exponents representing 30 clubs all over Sabah are taking part in the competition, which is divided into five weight divisions for boys and girls aged 6-18, in both the poomsae and kyorugi discipline.

The tournament is aimed to provide a platform to unearth promising young taekwondo talents so that they can be groomed to represent the state at the national and international levels in future, said Chin earlier.

The winning club for the kyorugi discipline will receive RM3,000 cash prize and RM2,000 cash for the  poomsae winning team, while the winning individual medals will be given out in each of the discipline..

The tournament jointly organised by Sabah  Kota Kinabalu Traders Social and Recreation Club (SKTSEC) and CMA Taekwondo Club is to celebrate SKTSEC’s  23rd anniversary.
