Six Sabah Umno YBs to join Bersatu today
Kota Kinabalu: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) confirmed that six former Sabah Umno assemblymen will be joining the party during its grand launching in Penampang today (Saturday).

Bersatu Sec-Gen Dato’ Marzuki Yahya told Daily Express this upon his arrival at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), here, Friday.

“Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is also Bersatu Chairman, will launch the party at ITCC Penampang as scheduled at noon while the official event will only begin at 2pm and is expected to adjourn at about 6pm.

“The programme includes receiving six more former Sabah Umno assemblymen into Bersatu.

“Actually there are seven of them joining us whereby another is an independent elected people’s representative, which I could not confirm yet,” he said, without revealing if it is Datuk Seri Anifah Aman.

The six are believed to be Datuk Japlin Akim (Usukan), Datuk Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar (Kawang), Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif (Membakut), Datuk Isnin Aliasneh (Klias), Datuk Matbali Musbah (Lumadan) and Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan (Apas).

They were among nine assemblymen who left Umno last December. In the middle of last month, it was reported that former Sabah Umno head Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor (Sulaman Assemblyman) together with Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (Karanaan Assemblyman) and four MPs from Sabah, namely Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee (Beluran), Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri (Kudat), Datuk Seri Azizah Mohd Dun (Beaufort) and Datuk Zakaria Edris (Gum-Gum), had joined Bersatu as well as two Senators - Datuk John Ambrose (former Penampang Umno Divisional Chief) and Datuk Abd Ghani Mohd Yassin (former Pensiangan Umno Divisional Chief).

On the number of supporters cum new members who will be brought by these six assemblymen to join Bersatu, Marzuki said so far, he has received about 100,000 new membership forms from Sabah since a month ago which indicated huge support for the party here.

He said a total of 25 divisions would also be launched at the event.

“Temporarily, Bersatu Sabah will be handled by the party’s head office. For the time being, Hajijji is in charge to head the launching of Bersatu Sabah here.

A lifetime member of Bersatu, Datuk Akjan Khan used a big banner to welcome the arrival of Marzuki and pledged full support for Dr Mahathir as the Prime Minister and Bersatu Chairman.

Akjan, who is a Chairman of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Dakwah Islamiah Negeri Sabah (Perkida Sabah) cum Chairman of Pertubuhan Permuafakatan & Perpaduan Masyarakat Peranakan Suluk Bajau Sabah, said he has so far registered about 20,000 people as members.

He is confident of another hundred thousand new Bersatu members.
