Pulau Mabul-born UIAM student named Best Debater

Kuala Lumpur: Sabah's fourth-year student of Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM), Nurezzah Abdullah kept the State's academic flag flying high when she was named the Best Debater in the Persidangan Parlimen Mahasiswa at the Majlis Makan Perdana held at the Puteri Pacific Hotel, here, Tuesday night.Nurezzah hails from Pulau Mabul, Semporna. Deputy Education Minister I, Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching said the conference was organised by Mubarak (Majlis Bekas Wakil Rakyat Malaysia) in collaboration with UIAM.

She said the Best Debater Award presentation was the highlight of the dinner. "The University Students Parliament Conference is an eye-opening experience for the participants.

This is the first time that students from all the public universities have participated in the conference aimed at grooming leaders of tomorrow for the Malaysian Parliament," she said.

Yap, who is Member of Parliament for Tawau, said the undergraduates were given a taste of what life is like as parliamentarians. "They found the three-day conference very interesting and stimulating," she added.
