Our big bikers represent Malaysia at event in Philippines

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Big Bikers Association (SBBA) represented Malaysia at the inaugural Cannonball 1,000 event in the Philippines recently. The event required bikers to go on a 1,178 kilometer journey covering a loop of northern Luzon in the Philippines within 24 hours.The journey covered Clark, Nueva Ecija, Isabela, Tuguegarao, Aparri, Pagudpod, Laoag, Vigan, La Union, Baguio, Pangasinan, Tarlac and back to Clark.

Each team comprised ten participants and the Malaysian team was represented by Angus Wong, Hasbullah Hamid, Ismail Ednie, A. Rasly, Jumadi Kastari, Mohd Zul Azri, Henry Wong, Victor Yee, Peter Lo, Sharil Sharif and Tengku Sarbanun Tengku Anuar who was a pillion. "It is an endurance event where riders practically had no sleep for 24 hours to complete the winding small and slippery mountainous road," said Wong on Sunday, adding that SBBA riders were backed by a paramedic team and support vehicles. "I am very proud of our members as it requires great discipline, physical strength and mental stamina, and on top of that, we were also riding on the right hand side of the road," he said. "We are really blessed that it was zero accident and the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred during the journey did not cause our hotel building to collapse," he added.

He said it was a good exposure and experience for SBBA members and further strengthened the relationship with riders in the Philippines. "The motorcycle tourism industry in Sabah is very promising and SBBA will be working together with the Tourism Ministry to facilitate this growing industry," he said.
