The operation was part of government efforts to sweep the State clean of illegal immigrants and squatter settlements following the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry on illegal immigrants in Sabah.

City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra said the five-hour integrated "Ops Nyah", which began at about 4am in Kg Lokub, involved four officers and 153 personnel from nine government agencies. He said inspection was conducted on 36 Filipinos, comprising 14 men, 10 women, eight boys and four girls.

In LAHAD DATU, a total of 58 illegal immigrants were detained by the enforcement in a special integrated operation at Kg Lobang Biawak.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) Commander Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun said the 42 men and 16 women were detained for not having identification documents.

He said a total of 196 individuals were inspected during the operation that began at 5am and involved various state and federal agencies.

"All those detained have been handed to the Immigration Department for deportation to their respective country," he said.

According to Abdul Rashid, this is among the efforts implemented by the Government to clean the State, especially the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone), of illegal immigrants.

In Tawau, a total of 12 Indonesian illegal immigrants including their boat skipper were detained by marine police for trying to sneak into the country via Sungai Sinosolan, Thursday.

Sabah Marine Police Commander ACP Mohammad Madun said the detainees, aged between 10 and 60, including three women, were roped in during "Ops Paradise" at about 7am.

"A team of personnel saw a speedboat approaching the riverbank of Sinosolan River and all the passengers boarded the boat.

"Through further inspection, all were detained for not having any valid travel documents including the boat skipper," he said here, Thursday.

Mohammad said the 23-year-old Indonesian man from Nunukan who was the skipper was suspected to be the mastermind in bringing in all the 11 illegal immigrants.
