KK still lack of fun centres for all ages, says Mayor
KOTA KINABALU: City Hall is all for the setting up of new amusement, entertainment and recreational centres in the city.According to Mayor Abidin Madingkir, the city, even though known as the fastest developing city in the region, is still lack of amusement centres suitable for all ages and races, especially for families to hang out.

"We endeavour to assist in whatever we can any individual or organisation to set up new such centres in the city," he said during the grand opening of Grand Illusions in Tanjung Aru, here, Saturday.

"I was made to understand that Optical Illusion Gallery has long been a trend and the choice of tourists overseas such as in Australia, Korea, New Zealand, United Kingdom and others.

"Today, in yet another milestone for Kota Kinabalu, we now have the first optical illusions gallery in the city," he said with pride.

However, Madingkir hoped that Grand Illusions Sdn Bhd and others in the entertainment and recreation industry will give their support to City Hall.

"We encourage entertainment and recreation areas, too, to keep their premises and surrounding area clean, neat and safe at all times," he said, adding that Grand Illusions can do their part in enrolling its premises in City Hall's Litter Free Zone Campaign, Plastic Bag Usage Reduction Campaign and Food Segregation Campaign.

He also congratulated Grand Illusions Sdn Bhd for being awarded the 'First Grand Optical Illusion Gallery in Malaysia' by the Malaysia Book of Records.

Meanwhile, Grand Illusions Sdn Bhd Director Lena Omye said they came by the idea 10 months ago after getting inspired by one of the amusement centres in New Zealand.

"We felt that there are not many amusement centres in Kota Kinabalu and people, especially those with children, are always looking for places to hang out."

She said Grand Illusions are divided into 12 sections consisting of different types of illusions suitable for all ages and visitors are allowed to take photos as well.

In terms of market, Omye said she is confident of having a good market, as they are the first and the only amusement centre offering such facilities.
