Oath Stone replica: DAP unperturbed by the 'challenges'
KOTA KINABALU: DAP is not perturbed by the "challenges" it is facing in erecting the replica of the Oath Stone because it claims to have the support of the people. DAP Sabah Vice Chief Chan Foong Hin said problems had occurred in Inanam and Sook where the replica Oath Stone had been erected.

In Kiansom, Inanam, Edward Liaw, the land owner where the replica of the Oath Stone was erected had been summoned by the village head to attend a hearing where he was penalised and ordered to pay sogit in the form of one buffalo for going against the native customs.

"On what basis did the village head find the Oath Stone replica erection in Kiansom not obeying native custom?" Chan asked, accompanied by Liaw, in a press conference here, Saturday.

Meanwhile, one day after the erection of another Oath Stone replica in Kampung Mempulut, Sook, Pensiangan, the land owner, Ambalas Ambirau, claimed his house was intruded by several people he claimed were from a Barisan Nasional (BN) component party.

According to Chan, a day earlier on Dec 10, the ceremony was witnessed by Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim, DAP Sabah Chief cum MP for Kota Kinabalu Jimmy Wong and himself as well as about 200 people.

The next day, Ambalas claimed the group of men entered his house and one of them punched a woman who was at his house.

"Ambalas has lodged a police report in Keningau but the DAP supporters still worry about their safety," said Chan.

Chan said any party, which practises political gangsterism definitely would fail to command the respect of most moderate Malaysians, especially the Kadazan Dusun Murut (KDM) community as these two incidents related to the Oath Stone.

"Cowards will always feel inferior and they will do something stupid. They will sometimes also use force. DAP Sabah condemns the rise of political gangsterism," he said.

He said the action of a single member of the BN component party had disgraced its own party and Sabah.

"The question most puzzling me is, why are the KDM component parties of BN afraid of the erection of Oath Stone replicas?" Chan asked.
