Turn KKIA into flight hub for Asia-Pacific: SUCCC
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah United Chinese Chamber of Commerce (SUCCC) President Datuk Seri Gan Sau Wah has asked the federal and the state government to upgrade Kota Kinabalu International Airport to become a flight hub for East Malaysia and the Asia Pacific to attract more tourists from Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, New Guinea, Fiji, the Philippines and South American countries. In addition Gan also proposed the port at Lahad Datu be used as a vessel centre from Sabah to Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand and Asia Pacific countries to improve the country's economy, especially the State so that more investors come to Malaysia especially Sabah.

He was speaking after meeting a delegation headed by businessmen from Taiwan headed by the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) Republic Of China (Taiwan), Deputy Minister Shih-Chang Hsin.

Gan also called for more flights from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and others to land in Kota Kinabalu.

In addition, he also hoped that the government would promote campaigns to bring travellers both within and outside the country to come to Sabah.

He also recently heard about the port in Lahad Datu which can receive 100 tonne ships.

"I also learned Lahad Datu has a oil palm centre. I will bring this matter to Taiwan and converse with the relevant parties to develop products from palm oil, rubber and others."

Also present was Taipei Economic and Cultural in Malaysia, Lin Wei Tenom.
