KOTA KINABALU: A Filipina, currently serving seven months’ jail for soliciting for prostitution, received another 16 months’ jail for furnishing false information on her identity.

Vitanynary Mary Peter (pic) on Monday pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mohd Aizat Abdul Rahim to giving false information to the police that her name was Flossie Fredda Sikawi which she knew was not true.

She committed the offence at 8.10pm on Oct 27, 2018 in a hotel at Bandaran Berjaya.

Inspector Albert Basiri, who prosecuted, informed the court that Vitanynary was initially arrested for vice and had, on Nov 2, 2018, been jailed seven months for the offence.

On Nov 4, the complainant, one Flossie Fredda Sikawi, lodged a police report claiming that she was the genuine owner of the MyKad used by Vitanynary when Vitanynary was arrested for the vice offence and that Vitanynary was suspected of using Flosie’s MyKad.

Flosie, in her report, also stated that  she had, on Nov 9, 2013, lodged a police report on the missing of her MyKad.
Albert further said Vitanynary had used Flosie’s MyKad for her daily use as her identification document.

Vitanynary also confessed that the said MyKad was given by a friend, one Osy, in 2015 who told her that the owner of the MyKad had passed away.

The court heard that Vitanynary’s real name is Vitanynary Mary Peter.

Vitanynary, who was not represented, requested for her sentence be run concurrently saying that she has a pair of twins and a daughter.

Albert pressed for a deterrent sentence.

The court ordered Vitanynary to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving sentence.

Vitanynary had committed an offence under Section 177 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to two years or fine, or both, on conviction. - Jo Ann Mool
