KOTA KINABALU: A resident at Lorong Kenawai 4, Lot 163 in Taman Dah Yeh Villa, here, fears becoming a landslide victim if the adjoining landowner fails to carry out slope protection.
Paula Janni said not only were the drains behind her house affected, but cracks have started to appear on the walls of her house following a tremor some time back.

“My house is located at the foot of a hill which is owned by a company,” she said, and lodged a report at the Luyang Police Station on the matter two years ago.
She also claimed that officers from City Hall as well as the Fire and Rescue Department came over and did an assessment where it was confirmed that her house was unsafe for occupation.
She said City Hall found that further earth movement involving a type of retaining wall structure built on the land would cause possible landslide in the event of continuous rain if no repair work is done.

“If this happens, it will cause further damage to my house and may even be life threatening. Thus I hope the landowner will do something, including clearing the clogged drains,” she said, adding not only her house but her neighbours on Lot 161 and Lot 162 would be similarly affected.
