Karamunsing Complex is Immortals Cup venue sponsor
KOTA KINABALU: Momentum is building up to the Immortals Cup, Sabah’s first premium Dota 2 tournament organised by the state’s leading newspaper, Daily Express, with Karamunsing Complex coming on board as tournament venue sponsor.

The state’s oldest shopping centre, which is also a hub for IT related products, will host the tournament final on March 2-3 to be held at Karamunsing Exhibition Hall.

Equipped with large LED screens, sound and lighting systems, the 20,000 square-foot new hall,  is an ideal location for the final given the huge crowd traffic at the shopping centre, particularly on weekends.

The tournament, which offers an attractive prize pool of RM22,000, expects to draw a large crowd during the two days who will want to watch the showdown of four teams in the seminal stage from which two will face-off in the final on March 3.

The champion will win RM10,000.

The road to the big event in Karamunsing Complex Exhibition Hall will begin on Feb 23 and 24 where participating teams will compete in the preliminary rounds at Enigma Entertainment Damai Plaza. The tournament is limited to 64 teams and only players from Borneo are eligible to participate in the tournament.

Other than the large prize pool, the highlights of  the Immortals Cup will include a Cosplay Competition revolving around iconic playable heroes of Dota 2, lucky draws, All-Star Matches and also Mini Games.

It is the tournament organisers’ hope that this yearly tournament will set the stage for Sabah to be a force in the emerging billion dollar e-sports industry, and make the State become a magnet to the world’s biggest e-sports events and top gamers.

This is in line with the Government’s vision to transform Malaysia into an e-sports powerhouse, both as an e-sports-playing country and a developer of the game.

Federal Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman had pointed out that the country can achieve considerable returns from the e-sports industry, in terms of foreign investment and creation of high quality jobs with high wages. - Leonard Alaza
