DBKK expanding KK anti-littering op
KOTA KINABALU: City Hall issued 22 compounds to litterbugs during its Anti-Litterbugs Campaign held on two consecutive days in the city just after the New Year.

Five offenders were caught committing the offence near Centre Point shopping complex, while another six in Sinsuran commercial centre. They were compounded not more than RM100, respectively.

“The people should know by now not to throw their rubbish anywhere they want. Just because the area is secluded doesn’t mean it is acceptable to do that,” its spokesman from Cleanliness and Environment Health Department said.

He said many bins had been placed in public in the city and it expects all members of the public to make full use of them.

“They can keep their rubbish in their pocket or bag temporarily if the closet bin is full and throw them when they reach the next available bin.

“Throwing them straight to the floor, inside the ornamental flowers area, drain outside the bin or beneath a parked car for reason that the bin they saw was full is unacceptable,” he said.

He said it would intensify efforts to curb bad littering habits in the city by conducting the campaign at other hot spot in the city, such as in Segama, Kampung Air including Gaya street.

A Daily Express reader lauded the authority’s effort in trying to educate people not to dirty public places in the city.

“They should go after those who flick their cigarette butt into the drain and those who spit on the walkways as well,” he added.
